Zarafa to Exchange online - Internal e-mail not replyable

We have exported a number of user's mailboxes by using the Outlook export to PST function.

 

Unfortunately we did not realize this would create problems because they were using Zarafa. Currently all internal e-mail addresses are registerd as 'ZARAFA: user@domain.com'. This obviously also means they cannot reply to e-mail messages sent from internal addresses.

 

Does anyone have an idea if/how it is possible to fix this? (For example search and replace 'ZARAFA: user@domain.com' to 'user@domain.com' inside the sent to/from fields?)

 

Also I have read about a migration tool by Zafara but I can barely find any concrete information.

 

A third option might be IMAP migration but they also have local archives..

 

Anyone who's done this before or has an idea your help is very appreciated.

  • You may be able to create a Transport Rule to remove the Zarafa: header.

    I'm not sure how that would impact the Zarafa functionality though.  Its certainly worth testing.

  • thank you for the suggestion, I have tried it but unfortunately it doesn't seem to work. Apparently the mail is blocked due to an invalid address type:

    #550 5.4.4 ROUTING.NoConnectorForAddressType; unable to route for address type ##

    I am not aware of any tools that are part of Office 365 which will allow you to reply to an e-mail imported into an Exchange Online mailbox from a .pst file with the header information retained from the previous server. This is not an issue specific to Office 365 but a known issue with moving mail with ".pst" files. I was going to recommend that you post this question on the Zarafa forum to see if they have any tools on the exporting side which you could use to achieve this functionality, but I see that you already asked this same question at:

    One work around would be to create contacts from your e-mails before exporting them to a .pst file. Then, if you can export your contacts from Zarafa you could import them into your Office 365 account and send e-mails to the contacts instead of replying to messages directly.     There is also a new tool which allows you to upload .pst files directly to Exchange Online without needing to use Outlook which you can try out from:
