Missing Team Sites After Changing Company Name

This question is answered This question is answered

On 2-24 I changed the company name of my site to a personal (verified/active) domain name. The new name of the company shows on my 365 login page, however I get a 'page not found' trying to access my Team Site. I get the same results when trying to access either my old site or the new site using a direct URL.

I have seen other posts indicating that this can take 24 to 36 hours, but I am well past that now.

Is there any way to access the files previously stored on my old Team Site? These are critical.

Thank you,

Kevin

  • Hello Mac,

This is Aaron with Microsoft Office 365 SharePoint Online Support.

There are two common scenarios that would cause the “page not found” error.

    1. Team Site has been deleted
    2. Team Site URL has been renamed

Here is how to resolve these issues.

    1. Navigate to http://<domain>/_layouts/settings.aspx
    2. Click “Sites and workspaces” under “Site Administration”
    3. Here you should see “Search” and your team site (If you only see search follow second set of steps)
    4. Click your team site
    5. Click “Site Actions”
    6. Click “Site Settings”
    7. Click “Title, description, and icon”
    8. Change the URL to “TeamSite”

If your team site has been deleted:

    1. From “Sites and workspaces” under “Site Administration”
    2. Click “Create”
    3. Give Title
    4. URL “TeamSite”
    5. Template “Express Team Site”
    6. “Use Unique Permissions”
    7. “No”
    8. “Yes”
    9. “Yes”

    10.  Click “Create”

    11.  Click “OK”

Please let me know if this resolves your issue.

  • ADDITIONAL INFO  from Kevin

If I am unable to access the Team Sites, using either the old company name (Amseuras) or the new one (HighstreetIt) using the following URLs

    domainname.sharepoint.com/.../settings.aspx

    or

    www.domainname.com/.../settings.aspx

Is this indicative of the fact that the name changes have not completed?

I have noted the help topics indicating the need to Recreate Team Sites in certain situations, however I can not even access the Team Site main page to take such action.

    Any help is greatly appreaciated.
