After the upgrade is complete, each user can sign in to their Office 365 account as well as their personal Microsoft account using the same user name and password they used in Live@edu. These two accounts are no longer associated with each other, and changes to one account will not affect the other.

For information about Office 365 password requirements, see Change your password.

If you are implementing single sign-on by updating your SSO Toolkit or by using federation, users can sign in to Office 365 by using their on-premises account information. For more information about password management in a single sign-on environment, see Single sign-on.

Note:   If in the notification email and in the Upgrade to Office 365 section of the Live@edu Service Management Portal, you received instructions that users must create Office 365 passwords before they can access their accounts, see Information for institutions that need to create passwords.

I'm an administrator and I forgot my password

If you forget your Office 365 administrator password, you can do one of the following:
  • If you've provided an alternate email address and mobile phone number enabled with text messaging, you can reset your own administrator password. For instructions, see Reset your administrator password.
  • Have another Office 365 administrator reset your password. For instructions, see Reset a user's password.
  • Request a password reset by submitting a service request.
One of my users can’t sign into to Office 365 with their Live@edu password.
If a user can't sign into Office 365 due to an incorrect password, after the upgrade completes, you can reset their Office 365 password and give them a new temporary password. For more information, see Reset one person's Office 365 password.

One of my users forgot their Live@edu password.

If a user forgets their Live@edu password during the upgrade:

If a user forgets their password after the upgrade:

My users' Live@edu passwords don't meet the password requirements in Office 365. Will they still be able to sign into Office 365 using the password they used for Live@edu?

Yes, your users will be able to sign in to Office 365 with the passwords they used in Live@edu. The next time the user changes their Offfice 365 password, the Office 365 password requirements will be enforced.

Information for institutions that need to create passwords

If you received notification that users need to create an Office 365 password prior to accessing their Office 365 account, here are the steps you and your users need to complete:

Before stage 2:

  1. Tell all users that after upgrade, they’ll need to create a new password to access Office 365.
    1. Tell them the URL, https://eduupgrade.office365.com/.
    2. Set up a mechanism for notifying them that the upgrade is done and it’s time to create a new password; for example, add an alert on your website and tell people when to check it.
After upgrade completes:
  1. Each user must go to https://eduupgrade.office365.com/, where they’ll be prompted to create a password to use with Office 365.
  2. As soon as they create the password, they can sign into Outlook Web App at at one of the following URLs to access their Office 365 email:
    • A custom domain you set up, such as http://mail.contoso.edu/.
  3. Users must then update desktop email applications, mobile email accounts, and other email clients with their new Office 365 password.
Note:
  • As the Service Management Portal administrator, you must create a temporary password for your Office 365 admin account in the Service Management Portal to complete the last stage of the upgrade process.
  • Users can only use this page for first-time creation of their Office 365 passwords. For future password resets in Office 365, see Sign-in and passwords.
