Learn more about Office 365
Directory integrations services can be useful when you need to integrate your on-premises Active Directory accounts with Office 365 user accounts in the cloud and provide your users with on-premises-like single sign-on behavior.
Office 365 for Enterprises supports the synchronization of directory objects (users, groups, contacts) to the cloud to help reduce administrative overhead. It also supports single sign-on (SSO) to provide users with a more seamless authentication experience as they access Office 365 services while logged on to the corporate network.

As a quality test engineer for a single sign on IP, the productive measures towards adapting SSO is a healthy choice. The fault tolerance and contigous enterprise security is the most robust. I don't stress enough about having a tolerable de-centralized enterprise without comprimise to intergrity towards end users. MICROSOFT again have proven to be an excellent choice in delivering expectancy for complete life cycles in DATA sensitive workflows.
Its all tooooo much. There is page after page of conflicting information. I've been reading for three days now and am still none the wiser. Should I use AD FS 2.0 first or power shell to set up ad sync? How do you even logon to 365? Where does the website live if you create one and is it then a corporate site or a personal site? What is the sites address? So many questions and so few answers.
SSO is a great way to go. You can avoid copying passwords into Office 365 and use the directory that you are used to. Our company makes a gateway for Office 365 that lets you sign-in with your own credentials from Active Directory, LDAP or any other directory. It also provides the synchronization to make sure users are both added and removed from O365 when required.
