NOTICE:  If the root or parent site is deleted from the top level settings in Microsoft SharePoint Online, you cannot re-create the site yourself in the Microsoft Office 365 portal. You must contact support.
 
If you experience one of the following symptoms in Microsoft SharePoint Online for Microsoft Office 365 for small businesses:

  • You deleted the team site, and you want to know how to re-create the site.
  • You deleted the team site, and then you re-created it. However, links on the new team site to other pages do not work. Or, links on other pages to the new team site do not work. For example, when you click the Team Site link on the home page of the Office 365 portal or when you click the Member Login link on your public Office 365 website, you are not redirected to the team site. 
  • In the Office 365 portal, when you click Team Site or you click Admin and then click Manage Team Sites, you receive the following error message:
     
    http 404 error File not found

Note:  If you added your own domain and configured Office 365 for small businesses to use that domain for your public Office 365 website, the URL of the public website is http://www/< domain >.< xyz > For example, the URL is http://www.contoso.com/ . If you did not add your own domain to Office 365 for small businesses, the URL of your public Office 365 website is http://< domain >.sharepoint.com. For example, the URL is http:// contoso .sharepoint.com.

follow the steps below to re-create the team site, re-create the navigation links on the team site, or both, as appropriate for your situation.

 

Re-create the team site

To re-create the team site in Office 365 for small businesses, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to the Office 365 portal.
  2. Browse to the Site Settings page of the root site collection. To do this, type the URL of the Site Settings page of the root site collection in the web browser. For example, type one of the following URLs:
    http://www.contoso.com/_layouts/settings.aspx
    http://contoso.sharepoint.com/_layouts/settings.aspx
  3. Browse to the All Site Content page. To do this, select All Site Content . Or, type the URL of the All Site Content page in the web browser. For example, type one of the following URLs:
    http://www.contoso.com/_layouts/viewlsts.aspx
    http://contoso.sharepoint.com/_layouts/viewlsts.aspx
  4. Click Create , and then click Site in the navigation pane on the left side.
  5. Click Express Team Site.
  6. In the Title box, enter a title for the site, and then type TeamSite in the URL name box.
  7. Click More options.
  8. In the Permissions area, under User Permissions , click Use unique permissions. NOTE: This step prevents anonymous access on the new site.
  9. Click Create.
  10. Select the site permissions that you want to configure, and then click OK. NOTE: If it is necessary, you can change the site permission settings later.

Re-create the navigation links on the team site

To re-create the website and the search navigation links on the team site in Office 365 for small businesses, follow these steps:

  1. On the team Site, click Site Actions , and then click Site Settings.
  2. On the Site Settings page, click Top link bar under Look and Feel.
  3. Re-create the website navigation link. To do this, follow these steps:

    • On the top link bar page, click New Navigation link.
    • In the Type the Web address box, type http://< YourTenantURL >/srch . For example, type one of the following URLs:
      http://contoso/srch
      http://www.contoso/srch
    • In the Type the description box, type Search , and then click OK.
