Set up Lync mobile devices (for administrators)

Lync Online now includes support for Lync mobile devices. Users can install Lync on selected Windows Phone 7.5, iPhone, iPad, Android, and Nokia devices. Features supported by Lync mobile clients include presence, instant messaging (IM), contacts, and the ability join a conference call by having your audio conferencing provider call the mobile device.

To set up your environment and your users for Lync mobile clients, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure everyone in your organization has installed the most current desktop version of Lync. For details, see Update Resource Center for Lync.
  2. Review the features supported by each mobile client. For details, see the Mobile Client Comparison Tables.
  3. Add network settings for Lync mobile clients.  For details, see the following section, Set up your network.
  4. Test your setup with one or two mobile devices to make sure everything works as expected.
  5. Tell your users how to install Lync on their mobile devices. For details, see Deploying  Mobile Clients.

Additional settings are required if your organization is:

  • An Office 365 for Enterprises (Plan “E”) customer.
  • An Office 365 for Professionals and Small Businesses (Plan “P”) customer, and you connect to the internet through a proxy server or firewall.

To set up your external firewall for Lync mobile devices, follow these steps:

  1. Open the following port for Lync mobile push notifications:

  1. If your firewall or proxy server blocks external SRV queries, add the following CNAME entry to your internal DNS server:

CNAME

lyncdiscoverinternal.yourDomainName.com

webdir.online.lync.com
