The Office 365 Best Practices Analyzer for Exchange Server 2013 is an automated tool that evaluates the health and readiness of your on-premises Exchange Server 2013 environment. You can run the Best Practices Analyzer at any time to assess the state of your Exchange configuration.

Overview

The Office 365 Best Practices Analyzer for Exchange Server 2013 can be used for organizations with:
  • Exchange Server 2013 on-premises only
  • Exchange Server 2013 hybrid configuration
You’ll need an Office 365 or Azure Active Directory user id to download the tool, and for new features that are coming soon. Once you have downloaded the Office 365 Best Practices Analyzer for Exchange Server 2013 you will not be required to sign-in to the Office 365 admin center to re-run the checks.

How to use the Office 365 Best Practices Analyzer for Exchange Server 2013

Task Actions
Step 1: Log on and sign in
  1. Log on to your on-premises computer running Exchange Server 2013.
  2. If you're an Office 365 Enterprise or Office 365 Midsize Business admin:
    1. Open Internet Explorer and browse to the Office 365 admin center (https://portal.microsoftonline.com).
    2. Sign in with your Office 365 user ID.
    If you don't have Office 365 yet:
    1. Sign up for a free trial and get a user ID in just a few minutes so that you can test your Exchange Server 2013. You can convert to a paid subscription later.
Step 2: Install the Best Practices Analyzer
  1. Click Tools on the left navigation pane.
  2. Click Check your on-premises Exchange Server.
  3. Click Run when prompted to install Best Practices Analyzer.
  4. Click Accept for each of the end user agreements.
Step 3: Run the Best Practices Analyzer
  1. Once the tool is installed, on your Start menu, choose Microsoft Office 365 Best Practices Analyzer Beta.
  2. On the Welcome page, click Next.
  3. Click Start scan.
  4. Enter alternate credentials if necessary, and then click Next.
  5. Wait for the scan to complete.
Step 4: Learn more about any warnings or failures
  1. Click View Details or Save scan results and open the saved file.
  2. Click the Learn more link next to any problems.
If you’ve saved your results, and can’t see the Learn more links, look at the bottom of your screen for an Internet Explorer message about ActiveX controls, and click Allow blocked content.
  • After fixing any problems, you can run Microsoft Office 365 Best Practices Analyzer Beta again from the Start menu of your computer running Exchange Server 2013.
