I'm migrating POP users to Exchange Online. They are using Windows 7 & Outlook 2010. One users Exchange account is failing to add to his Outlook profile properly. His data file shows as being a private folder instead of an OST. Outlook fails to start with the following error:
Cannot open your default e-mail folders. An unexpected error has occurred.
Mapi was unable to load the information service EMSMdB.DLL
Be sure the service is correctly installed and configured
Suggestions would be most welcome.
From the error message, it seems that your Outlook crashed.
To solve this issue, please try to follow steps below:
1.Reinstall Office 2010 to fix Outlook.
2.Run Desktop setup to automatically configure your Office desktop apps to work with Microsoft Office 365.
3.Create a new profile to configure your Office365 account.

How is everything going? Do you have any updates about the status of the issue?
I encountered the same problem with Outlook 2013 after a windows update.
No need to repair or reinstall office / outlook. I tried that and it didn't work. I also did not create a new outlook profile.
The emsmdb32.dll can be found here. C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15\emsmdb32.dll
Rename file to emsmdb32.dll.old
Start Outlook and Outlook setup will recreate this dll
This will resolve the problem.
