I am trying to find out what the official response is from microsoft as to whether office 2003 and outlook 2003 will function/work/cause any problems when using office 365.
There seems to be many blogs/wikis/websites all stating that office 2003/outlook 2003 may work however what's the offical word on this. I have many customers that wish to use office 365 however they cannot for various reasons (mainly cost) upgrade to office 2010 or outlook 2010.
I apprecaite any information you can provide.
If your mailbox is in a cloud-based environment (for example, in Microsoft Office 365 for enterprises or Office 365 for professionals and small businesses), and you want to connect to your account with Outlook 2003, you must choose the POP3 or IMAP4 option when you set up your account.
In cloud-based environments, connecting to your e-mail using the Exchange account isn’t supported. Because POP3 or IMAP4 connections to your account don’t support contact and calendar synchronization, if you're an Outlook user in a cloud-based environment, we recommend that you use Office Outlook 2007 or Outlook 2010.
You may refer to this article below to set up Outlook 2003 for IMAP or POP access your e-mail account:
To access Office 365 SharePoint Online service, it needs to meet the system requirement for Office 365. You may get detailed information about the software supported from the following document system requirement section:
Microsoft SharePoint Online for Enterprises Service Description.docx
Thanks for your update.
Yes, Office 2003 is not supported in this version of Microsoft Online Service as it is not listed in the above document.
Therefore, when you tried to use Office 2003 to access SharePoint Online, you are not able to open those SharePoint Online sites as a storage location from within Office 2003.
So, to have a better experience of Office 365, you may upgrade to either Office 2007 SP2 or Office 2010. In addition, Office Professional Plus 2010 is provided in Office 365 Enterprise subscription. You may use this version of Office for SharePoint Online service.
