Outlook defaults to use the email address when trying to authenticate users, but fails with a 401 error. If the user changes the login name to the microsoft user ID, it lets them in.

The TextExchangeConnectivity does give a pass on the Outlook AutoDiscover test (on the 3rd method - HTTPS Redirection).

I'd like to find out why Outlook can't authenticate using the email address when the portal can.

Other details:

That the internal Active Directory domain is different from the internet domain/email address in use (IE user\abcd internally and user@abc.com for email/external website).

The Autodiscover record is set up correctly with the ISP to point to autodiscover.outlook.com.

There is also an internal CNAME for autodiscover pointint to autodiscover.outlook.com.

The use case:

We have a multifunction printer/copier (MFP) in our copy room. We need a service account for this MFP that can send and receive email. The MFP sends scanned documents and faxes directly to our users' mailboxes. This is a common use case, but I have not found a satisfactory answer.

What we tried that doesn't meet our needs:

We tried creating an "equipment" resource mailbox, but could not figure out how a non-Outlook client could send/receive mail with this mailbox.

We tried creating a non-licensed Office 365 user account (because this is a service account and not a human user of Office), but again could not figure out if a machine could send/receive mail with this account.

We are using shared mailboxes and Exchange security groups/lists very effectively. But nothing seems to fit this use case. Any ideas?

Added email/domain administrator account in Outlook, now opens all mailboxes.

I administer several Office 365 hosted Exchange accounts and this is the first time I have run into this problem. I added the administrator email account to Outlook and when I attempt to open Outlook, it attempts to open all mailboxes in the domain and the amount of data locks up my Outlook.

I have a question about archiving old entries in a calendar. Here is the scenario:

We have a client who has a Room Mailbox. It's only purpose is to serve out a Shared Calendar. This shared calendar is now massive, with entries for every day dating back over 5 years. As such, it is producing a performance bottleneck (Clicking the "Calendar" tab in Outlook causes Outlook to freeze for a few seconds to up to a minute while it parses the Calendar entries). My assumption is that if I were able to delete (archive) the old entries, say entries over a year old, then the calendar size would be cut down to a point that would solve the bottleneck.

Thus, my question is this: if I have created a local Outlook profile for that mailbox on my local computer, and then manually archive the old entries through Outlook (anything older than 2 years, delete; anything older than 1 year, archive), will this propagate to the shared calendar that is locally on other clients PCs in the domain? As in, if I delete an entry from within *My* Outlook from 3 years ago, will this also delete that entry from 3 years ago in the calendar on other person's Outlook?

In addition, I imagine this might not be the best practice for implementing a shared calendar. Is there a better way to have everyone accessing a single calendar so that all the users can see all the entries? They use it for knowing when everyone is busy/doing something.

Thank you.

Deleted Items Recovery

This morning, I inadvertently emptied my Sent Items Folder(thinking it was my Deleted Items Folder). Then, I emptied my Deleted Items Fodler as this is a daily habit of mine. Once I realized what happened, I followed the instructions to "Recover Deleted Items" from Outlook Web App, not realizing that there was a way to do this in Outlook.

I had to go through and recover several chunks of email at a time as OWA would only let me select about 2 dozen email as at once. I went all the way back to the beginning of October 2012 as I felt I would not need any messages before then. To my disappointment, the emails never returned to my Sent Items or Deleted Items Folders.

In a panic, I did more research and found that I could perform these same tasks within Outlook. I went to recover Deleted Items and was relieved to see that they were all there. After restoring them, I was again disappointed because I realized that I had only restored messages from before the beginning of October. Everything since this October 1, 2012 is nowhere to be found. Not in Deleted Items, not in Sent Items and not in the Recovery Deleted Items view on OWA or in Outlook.

I keep hoping that this restoration is being processed somewhere in the cloud, but I am starting to lose hope. Can someone please tell my why OWA did not process this request and what I can do to get these messages back? My sent items are critical as I frequently refer to them when dealing with my clients.

Thanks,

Will

Can't Access Shared Calendar Permissions

I created a shared mailbox and called it Company Calendar via powershell.

The ultimate goal here is to allow managers to be editors. That way they can make company wide announcements, add or remove entries, etc. Additionally they (or I) will need to allow their subordinates access to the calendar but only to read not to write. I think I'm pretty clear on how to get that done but I need to access it first to show the managers what to do.

Thanks.

Finding settings to connect 365 to outlook 2010, help?

Hello,

I am currently a college student. I have connected to our school's email service before using POP3 access. However, since we have upgraded our email from @live.edu to office 365, is the email considered an exchange account now at the moment? If so, how can I connect this student email address to outlook 2010 through Microsoft exchange?

I tried to ask my school's IT and they were literally no help at all. Any help from Microsoft in setting up an exchange account so I can use the excellent features in outlook 2010 would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

$users = Get-Mailbox -ResultSize unlimited -Filter {(RecipientTypeDetails -eq ‘UserMailbox’)}
ForEach ($a in $users) {$a.ArchiveName.Add("XXXXX")}
$users | %{Enable-Mailbox $_.Identity -Archive -ArchiveName $_.ArchiveName}

In OWA, the Archive Mailbox has a display name of "XXXXX", but in Outlook 2010 it has a display name of "Archive - <username>", which is the default name given if you use the Office 365 Admin GUI.

I've tried re-creating the Outlook profile. I've tried turning cached mode off. It happens for all users. It happens on multiple computers.

This effectively stops our rollout of Archive Mailboxes because the name "Archive" is already used in the name of other shared mailboxes that are in users' Outlook already, and will lead to misplaced mail. How can I make Outlook display the name correctly, and if not is this fixed in Outlook 2013 or post-upgrade O365?
