Hello;

I have just migrated to my personal domain. (no issue)

I am attempting to create a new userid  "FName"  (first initial, last name) @ mydomain.com

(I need the "fname" email account so I don't have to notify all of my contacts of the change.

I get the error message that Windows Live Id "user name" is already associated with another user.

.. there are no alias's set up,  the email address isn't in the contact list,

. . . I do have a "user name@Live.ca" id  - but this "user name"@mydomain.com

I am a novice user - so the discussion about "Powershell" are beyond me.

Please help

  • Hi rjs,

    According to the error message you got, it appears the user name already exists.  Would you pleaseto check the mailbox as the following steps:

        1.  Check mailboxes in Exchange Online control panel under “All mailboxes” view.

        2.  Check if the mailbox user name exists in Deleted mailboxes.

    In addition, if it doesn't work, you can find some useful information in the following KB article.

    Thanks,

  • Hi rjs,

    If I understand correctly the issue is that when you create a new userid  "fname"@mydomain.com after you have migrated to your personal domain, it says the Live ID"user name" is already exist.

    Could you please tell me whether you have created the same username in your personal domain? If you have done it before the migration, please delete the previous username.

    And thanks to Melissa, you can follow these steps to help you resolve the issue.

    Thanks,

    Overtank

  • Hi Melissa;

    Yes, the need email account shows as deleted.  (as well as two "numeric dummy accounts"

    I'm not sure of next steps:

    Do that mean that I need to:

    - recreate userid, but don't assign exhange access (to avoid conflict)

    - restore the mailbox

    - assign exchange access to the userid ???

    -OR-

    Is there a method to totally deleted the mailbox (so conflict not exist)

    thanks

  • Overtank;

    I must have!

    I have transferred 'mydomain.com" to Office 365 and want to replicate my original email.   FirstInitialLastName@mydomain.com.

    When I create the user and assign exchange, I get the error message that "same user name assigned"

    Following the various posts, I have:

    -  deleted user via User Management page

    -  removed the FirstInitialLastName@mydomain.com from Contacts

    -  Used the Powershell with the following results:

       >  Get-Mailbox   - none found (however the web interface shows  mailbox as deleted)

       >  Get-User         - three found (the specific id + 2 numeric dummies)

       >  Get-Distribtion  - nothing found

    Okay - so now what?

    How do I delete object (user) that is causing the conflict?

    thank you so much for your help
