I am STILL trying to verify my domain through Melbourne IT but they are having problems with their DNS management, so right now I have no web site for my company. If I start to recreate the site in office 365 now (who knows how long Melbourne will take until it lets me verify), will my content be saved when I finally am able to verify it and it drops the .onmicrosoft portion of the address?
Any help would be much appreciated!
Hi Allstate Courier,
The website content will not be lost when changing the address to use your own domain name.
However, as your domain was not verified yet, you can use the original domain "onmicrosoft.com " as your SharePoint public-facing website address, it will looks like http://yourdomain.sharepoint.com. And when the domain was verified finally, we could change the website address with your own domain name.
You may refer to the article below for more information about how to use custom domain in SharePoint Online public-facing website :

THe first thing I did was to create a carbon copy website on office 365 before olsm went down, that was end of april, i only found I needed to verify 4-5 days ago,
still working on why my custom domain is not pointing but website on sharepoint is still online ok
Hi,
That would not cause any problems, the only thing you must be aware of, is that any users who find it now, will not when you verify and switch to your domain name.
Hope this helps
Robert
I did verify 4/5 days ago and then i switched to raycausey.co.uk last night on office 365 but so far it doesnt point to my sharepoint site.
Are you saying it will never point to my site?
many thanks
No but when it does it will point to raycausey.co.uk folks who had your site bookmarked at tempdomainname.sharepoint.com will not know that it has moved, nor will search engines, so best not to do much other than build it, get it looking right, then with luck you will be able to verify and move.
Its only been on sharepoint a week whilst I get the custom domain pointing to it, as everyone has it bookmarked as the raycausey.co.uk
thanks very much for your info
hope I dont have long to wait now
