When going to check my webmail whether on: https://mail.office365.com or Outlook.com my username/password doesn't work with my custom domain, BUT it does work when I log into the admin panel and goto Outlook. Rather annoying. My custom domain is active.

I have checked your screenshot. I noticed that it was Outlook Live page. To troubleshoot the issue, I suggest typing mail.office365.com directly in the web browser. Can you log in Outlook Web App successfully?
Do you mean that you couldn’t use email@example.com to log on Outlook Web App via https://mail.office365.com/ or Outlook.com? However, you could log on Microsoft Online Portal and click Outlook to log in it.
Does any error appear when using firstname.lastname@example.org to log on Outlook Web App via https://mail.office365.com/?
If so, please capture a screenshot and post it in the forum for further research?
