Office 365 Lync - IM with yahoo account, how do you make it work?

This question is answered This question is answered

As we have moved some of our customers to Office 365 they are frustrated by not being able to connect to other IM clients that they were connecting to with Live Messenger.  And now that their Username is associated with 365 the y are not able to use Live Messenger.

I looked at some earlier posts about using a format like bob(yahoo.com)@live.com to reach bob@yahoo.com.  But it did not seem to work here.

Is it possible to use Lync in Office 365 to connect to all IM inside and outside, or what tool would allow this?

  • Hello Bob,

Do you mean that you want to enable all external IM connectivity, such as Yahoo, in Lync Online service?

    If so, No.
IM/presence with Yahoo isn’t available currently in Lync Online.

For detailed information about Lync Online public IM connectivity features, please refer to the Appendix B of Microsoft Lync Online for Enterprises Service Description.

    Thanks for understanding,
