NOTICE: Temporarily removing Lync connectivity with Windows Live Messenger in Office 365 for professionals and small businesses

Audience: All

Updated Lync external communications information

Lync external communications is turned off by default. When you turn on External communications, users can add the following types of people to their Lync Contacts list:

  • Lync users in other companies that have turned on external communications.
  • Public IM contacts using Skype or Messenger.

    Microsoft is researching this and will post more information about PIC availability in Office 365 for professionals and small businesses in this article when the information becomes available.

    Still no update/resolution? this 'feature' is still mentioned in Lync documentation but does not appear to have been resolved in a over a year.

    Hello, Is there anyone dealing with this issue?, is it still an issue?   July 14, 2011 was the original notice of the "temporary" removal of this service ability. all documentation appears to shows this as possible.  The information, help, wikis, blogs available to us end users is getting more and more obsolete and frustrating.  It is impossible to actually find "Current information" unless you actually start a service ticket and talk to a service rep.  Please be a responsible person and look after your blog.  This "Notice" is an incredible waste of time and a DIS-Service to your Company/Employer and ALL users of the Office 365 Product.
