Sharing administrative tasks

Did you know that an administrator can give permissions to other people to do administrative tasks in Office 365?

If you are an Office 365 for professionals and small businesses customer you can assign administrator permissions to an Office 365 user to help you with various administrative tasks. For more information about these roles in Office 365 for professionals and small businesses, see Assigning administrator permissions.

If you are an Office 365 for enterprises customer there are four additional types of administrator roles you can assign to users to help perform various tasks. While global administrators can perform all administrative tasks, you can also have administrators that perform a limited set of tasks, such as:

  • Billing administrator: Makes purchases, manages subscriptions, manages support tickets, and monitors service health.
  • Password administrator: Resets passwords, manages service requests, and monitors service health. Password administrators can reset passwords only for users and other password administrators.
  • Service administrator: Manages service requests and monitors service health.
  • User management administrator: Resets passwords, monitors service health, and manages user accounts, user groups, and service requests.

So, think about what you need help with (resetting passwords is a popular item), and whom you would like to perform that task and lighten your load!

To learn more about these roles and how to assign them in Office 365 for enterprises, see Assigning administrator roles.
