Password reset requests are one of the most common support issues. Office 365 offers the following ways to help users or administrators who have forgotten their passwords.

If you are an Office 365 user and have forgotten your password, ask any administrator in your organization to reset your password for you.

If you are one of several administrators, ask another administrator to reset your password.

If you are the only administrator in your organization, or if no other administrators are available, you can submit a password reset request via our New Service Request wizard.

You will need to provide your name, phone number, and email address, so our Support team can contact you. We wantto hear from you. Submit a comment below to let us know what you think about this feature and to tell us about other features you'd like to see.

Sounds good. It will however really be great if partners can have a single portal for all managed client accounts. Right now as it is, it is quite common to reset each customer account password often because there are too many of them and thee is no single portal login to manage them all. I think I read somewhere that there is a single portal for all managed customer accounts now, that will be great.

  • I am building my website on MS Office live.  My password or user name has failed (although they are standard ones I use) and there is nowhere to get my password reset.  I am only me and there is no-one but me to reset anything.

I am locked out and there is not support.

Please help me get access to my work and my website.

    Desperate here :-(

I feel your pain Catherine, you could try contacting onlinehelp.microsoft.com/.../ff652569.aspx

I did this wizard for the only Admin - it worked faster than I expected, I got a call in about 2 hours.

A suggestion would be to move parts of the form around.  It had a space for notes on the first page and then on the 2nd wouldn't take my email address from the Office365 Beta - I had to give another email thinking that I'd get a response there.  Instead they called me and took care of it over the phone - just thought someone should know that it wouldn't recognize my Office 365 email.

  • this is not about password and lockout thing, but it would be great if the only admin will not be able to remove his own account from the admin page.

    Top Q&A from Social Media

Each week we get hundreds of great questions on Facebook , Twitter and right here in the blog . I want to share some of the most frequent questions and the answers for all to see.

    1) When can I get into the Office 365 beta? I want to try it now!

We’ve sent invites to everyone who signed up for our waitlist and now you can get instant access at Office365.com . If you signed up but lost your email somehow, don’t worry, just go sign up today.

    2) I’m the administrator and I’ve forgotten/lost my password for my account. Who can I contact to get this reset?

We’ve put together a blog post outlining what the issues and how to fix it. Fill out the form and we will contact you! You don’t even need to wait on the phone.

    3) It is necessary to have installed Office software on my PC to use Office 365?

We recommend it. Office 365 comes with the Office Web Apps for viewing, editing and collaborating on documents, but to see the best of Office 365 you should have Office 2007 or 2010. If you don't have either, you can purchase Office Pro Plus with Office 365, which is the same Office 2010 software you are used to but delivered as an always up to date service, so you always have the latest version! No more upgrades!

Note: If you intend to download Office Pro Plus during your beta testing, please make sure you still have backup disk of your old Office version. Installing Office Pro Plus will upgrade your current version and you will not be able to roll back without a disk.

    4) Are there a minimum number of required users for an Office 365 account?

Nope! You can use Office 365 all by yourself, although we think you will want to share with your friends.

    5) I’m having trouble getting my domain setup with Office 365 for small business. Where can I get help?

We have a ton of great domain help information located on the Community help site for small businesses. Further, this video can take you through the process step by step so you can follow along. There also 40+ other great videos that cover everything from help to product overviews to demos.

  • Office 365 don't funtion like 'Forget Password' like all apps have?

  • A+ for reset: As many of you have been able to read in my previous post I have been a happy MS office

  • The "forgot my password" states that you should contact your Global Admin.  Call technical support for Cloud Services and they will reset your password if you are the only Global Admin.

  • I have lost my password to Microsoft Office 365 Beta (Plan P1).  I am the only administrator and need to work on my website.  I have put in a service request but have yet to receive any kind of reply (by email or phone).  I am losing valuable time trying to get into my service and WAITING FOR SOME RESPONSE!  It would be very helpful if there was a way to reset the administrative password like with other providers.  All I find is the Service Request Form and comments on here which have conviently NO help because the link is removed.  This has cost me days.  At this point I am ready to trash the whole thing!

A member of the support team called me today and gave me instructions to reset my password using a temperary password.  Got into my account with no more problems.  Thanks Mr. Scott Phillips!!!

  • Unfortunately, none of my 4 attempts to log a service request online seem to have worked. Thankfully one of my Twitter followers pointed me in the direction of the phone support number and I got a password reset that way (thank you!).

One thing to note - the technical support engineer needed a phone number for me and that wasn't on my account - even though it was on my Microsoft online profile, the field wasn't populated for my mailbox.  I don't know what we would have done if I hadn't still got access to the mailbox through a copy of Outlook that hadn't needed to reauthenticate yet...
