The Lync Online Control Panel recently received significant updates that give administrators greater control over Lync Online settings and policies. Key new capabilities include:

  • Presence privacy mode: Provides administrators with greater control over the default level of presence information shared by users in their organization. Administrators can choose whether users’ presence information is available to all Office 365 users by default, or only to a user’s contacts. This is an organization-wide setting that individual users can override if desired. See the Office 365 help topic Configure presence privacy mode for more details.

  • Mobile phone notifications: When the Lync Mobile client is used on Windows Phone 7.5, Apple iPhone, and iPad, a push notification service is used to deliver alerts about incoming and missed instant messages, missed calls, and voice mail when the Lync app is not active. This setting allows administrators to enable or disable these notifications. This is an organization-wide setting that individual users can override if desired. See the Office 365 help topic Configure mobile phone notifications for more details.

  • Dial in conferencing settings (enhanced): Audio conferencing provider, toll number, toll free number, and passcode integration settings were added to the dial-in conferencing settings page. Dial-in conferencing provides telephone access to Microsoft Lync Online meetings for users who can’t get to a computer. See the Office 365 help topic Configure dial-in conferencing for more details.

  • Advanced user filtering and search: An updated user interface makes it easier for administrators to manage large numbers of Lync Online users and update per-user settings. A number of per-user settings, such as recording and Voice Anywhere provider and phone number were also added to the Control Panel.

This update applies to new and existing Office 365 customers in all geographies where Office 365 is sold.
