Audience: Office 365 for professionals and small businesses
Written by: Stacia Snapp, technical writer for Office 365
Office 365 for professionals and small businesses provides a domain name that you use when you create a public website with the service, but you can use your own custom domain name instead if you like. For example, instead of using contoso.sharepoint.com – your original Office 365 SharePoint domain – you’ll be able to use simply contoso.com.
There are a lot of benefits to using a domain name that you’ve purchased for your business. For example, it looks professional to have your own domain name, which makes your small business look like a bigger force in the market. And it makes it easier for customers to find your information, because they are more likely to be able to remember or guess the URL for your website.
To use your domain name with Office 365, you do the following:
1. Add your domain to Office 365.
2. Configure SharePoint Online to use the domain name for your public Office 365 website.
For details, check out the Office 365 help article about using a custom domain, Use a custom domain for your SharePoint Online public website address.
